Nick and I thought we would have a change so off to North Wales!! I made a week of it. On my way up the rain started, by the time I arrived in Bromborough on the first night I needed a power boat, not a mini, 18 inches of water on most of the roads, I thought what was I thinking of coming here!!
After a good night’s sleep I woke to the sun trying to show itself and a very cold wind to the start of the day.
With minis everywhere I began chatting to some people from Swindon, thinking that Nick hadn’t made it he then drove into the car park. He had left Wootton Bassett at 5.00am and finally arrived at 8.30am just in time for the start of the run.
We set off along the coast road to Rhyl and on to Colwyn Bay where we had a stop on the beach road.
After a short rest we set off again and then the best bit, the run around The Great Orme which brought back a lot of old memories for me of my rallying days.
When we reached the top the café was closed and the wind was very cold but that did not stop the fun. Looking out over Snowden you could see the snow on the hills and I was told there was snow in the passes. Finally we set off to Llandudno where we parked on the promenade, a little warmer as we were out of the wind.
After saying bye to Nick I went to look for my bed for the night. I went out for a meal and met up with two of the boys from Swindon and we had a good chat about the run. I arranged to meet them for the run back but I missed them so I thought I would go back through the Llanberis pass and Betws-y-Coed road through the mountains which was great fun. On to the A5 and the A483 and headed south for home.
I will go again, yes it’s a long way on your own but it was great fun.
